Maurice grew up in rural Carroll County, Iowa, graduating from Kuemper High School in Carroll. He attended St. John’s
University in Collegeville, MN from 1964-1965. He received a BA degree from the University of Iowa in 1968 and a Juris
Doctorate Degree, with distinction, from The University of Iowa College of Law in 1970. During law school Maurice published
two articles in the Iowa Law Review: "Equality in a Selective Service System," 54 Iowa Law Review 21, "Subdivision Regulation
in Iowa" 54 Iowa Law Review 1121. From 1969-1970 Maurice served as the Managing Editor of the Iowa Law Review.
In 1970 Maurice was admitted to the practice of law in the State of Iowa and began private practice with the firm then
known as Kindig, Beebe, McCluhan, and Rawlings in Sioux City, Iowa. He was an assistant City Attorney for the City of Sioux
City in 1970 and 1971, and was president of the Sioux City Lawyers Club in 1976.
In 1976 Maurice was named a Fellow of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers and served on its Board of Directors from 1992-1998.
From 1996-1997 he was its president. In 1976 Maurice was appointed by the Iowa Supreme Court to the Iowa Board of Law Examiners where
he served from 1976 until 1983. From 1982 to 1983 he was the chairman of the Iowa Board of Law Examiners.
In 1987 Maurice was named a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and served as the state chair for the State of Iowa
from 2005 to 2006. Maurice is included in the publication "Best Lawyers in America" by Woodward & White in the fields of personal
injury, medical malpractice, and commercial litigation. He is a member of the Woodbury County Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar
Association, American Bar Association, The Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, Iowa Defense Counsel Association, and the American College
of Trial Lawyers. He has given professional presentations at the Iowa State Bar Association Annual Meeting, Iowa State Bar Association
Bench-Bar Conference, Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, Iowa Defense Counsel Association, Iowa Trial Lawyers Association, Woodbury County
Bar Association, Western Iowa Community College, and the Northwest Iowa Community College.
He is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Courts in Iowa as well as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme
Court of the United States. He was a member of the Third Judicial District Nominating Commission from 1982-1988 and was a member of
the State Judicial Nominating Commission from 1993-1999.
Maurice is engaged in the general practice of law including but not limited to litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice,
commercial litigation, insurance, and appellate practice. He has handled over 35 appeals in the Appellate Courts of the
State of Iowa and has appeared in over two dozen reported cases in the Federal Courts.
Community involvement has also been a part of Maurice’s career including serving on the Board of Directors of the A.I.D. Center,
Sioux City, Iowa, Girls, Inc., Iowa Law School Foundation Board of Trustees, Briar Cliff University Board of Trustees and Executive
Committee, and the Siouxland Foundation of Board of Trustees.
Maurice and his wife Sue live in Sioux City and are the parents of three adult sons and two granddaughters.
