Becky grew up in Sioux City, graduating from East High School. She received her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Morningside College in 1991 and her law degree from The University of South Dakota in 1995. During law school she interned in the Gateway Law Department. She began her career at the Rawlings, Nieland, Probasco, Killinger, Ellwanger, Jacobs & Mohrhauser law firm in 1995 as an associate, and became a partner in 1999.

Becky is engaged in the general practice of law, including but not limited to, family law, commercial law, and employment law and is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota, along with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Iowa. She is a member of the Iowa, South Dakota, and Nebraska Bar Associations, the Woodbury County Bar Association (where she served as President in 2006) and the Dakota County Bar Association. She was a member of the Third Judicial District Nominating Commission from 2001-2007. Becky also serves on the Iowa Supreme Court Grievance Commission.

Becky and her husband Bob make their home in Sioux City, where she has been active in the Siouxland Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the United Way of Siouxland (serving as Board Chair in 2004-05), and The Center for Siouxland. They have two adult daughters and three grandchildren.
